Sustainable Communities

Getting things done and improving the quality of life for our community continues to be my highest priority, I have been very busy working for you. Some of the initiatives that I have spearheaded include:

✔New George Brown College Campus coming to York South-Weston (Mount Dennis neighbourhood).

✔Led the creation of a new daycare centre that has been built in Mount Dennis. It will be the biggest under the City's portfolio, with 98 spaces, and will be a net-zero building.

✔Supported the full funding of TransformTO, the City of Toronto’s Climate Action Plan.

✔As a member of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation's Tenant Services Committee, I championed the inclusion of subsidized, high speed internet services for all TCHC residents. I am the only City Councillor who has taken serious action on internet access rights for Torontonians.

✔Worked closely with the TRCA and the City of Toronto on the Rockcliffe-Smythe mitigation strategy to reduce the risk of flooding. The preferred solution has been chosen through community consultation. The estimated cost of this multi-phase project is $371 million.

✔Through the City’s budget process, I have championed new Basement Flooding Mitigation Infrastructure Improvements throughout Ward-5 (new underground sewage and stormwater systems have been replaced).

✔Transit improvements in our Ward:

✔ I was able to work with the TTC to extend the 79B bus to Runnymede station.

✔ I am also leading the creation of a new route that will travel from Castlefield, north on Kinkcort, and west on Ingram Dr. to Keele St, south, connecting to the new Keelesdale Station.

✔Traffic improvements in our Ward:

✔Reduced the speed limit on many local roads from 40 km/hr to 30 km/hr.

✔Bike Share has been expanded into York South-Weston.
